Since the age of four, Daryl Hawkins has been riding dirt bikes. Between running the Wrappin and Rollin food truck and motocross, the Hawkins family always kept busy. However, on September 8th, 2021 Daryl was involved in a tragic motocross accident. The accident caused Daryl to end up fully paralyzed with central cord syndrome, a very serious spinal cord injury. Daryl was taken up to Salem where the doctors informed the family that he may not regain the full strength of his upper body.

This was not going to stop Daryl though. After two weeks, he slowly began to lift his legs and move his feet. Three more weeks and Daryl would squeeze his wife’s hand once more. Daryl has been home since October 13th recovering through outpatient rehab. He has since started seeing a chiropractor in hopes of pinpointing the spinal cord injuries that could help him regain function in his muscles. The road to recovery is long and arduous, but Daryl is determined to be able to ride once again.

Although things are tight financially, the Hawkins family is determined to be back on their feet. Having reduced their staff to the bare minimum, they have still kept their business afloat despite the tragedy they have endured. They are very thankful for their wonderful support system throughout this long year.

We are happy to announce that thanks to the incredible partnerships in our community, the Hawkins family will finally have some good news on the horizon. Rogue Credit Union and Best Country 103 have teamed up with Bobby Geyer Construction Corporation to create an easy-to-use entryway for Daryl to be able to move smoothly in and out of his house. Southern Oregon Diesel is going to be contributing to the Hawkins family’s utility bills. Sherm’s Thunderbird Market and Fred Meyers are going to supply the family with gift cards to help keep their house stocked with whatever food and gifts can help the spirit of this holiday season. To top it all off Roseburg Collision Center is going to help fix the front of the food truck that was damaged in a fender bender earlier this year.

What an incredible story for such a wonderful family. We wish them the best of luck and hope that someday soon Daryl can be back on his bike.
