Today we received a letter from David. A caring son who has been watching his mother fight through breast cancer since April. Having survived a double mastectomy, cancer, radiation, and back surgery, a prognosis of Myasthenia Gravis was certainly not what she was hoping for. Myasthenia gravis is a condition caused by the breakdown of communication between the nerves and muscles. This can cause poor Terri to not be able to control the basic motor functions in her body. Needless to say, things are not going as smoothly as Terri would like.
David’s father Ray retired a little over a year and a half ago to take care of his wife Terri. It became quite apparent to Ray that this disease was going to be very demanding of Terri so he dropped everything to make sure she was well taken care of. Ray took on all of the household duties himself, a monumental task given the nature of his situation. He even built ramps to allow easier access for Terri’s wheelchair. In Ray’s words, he’s no carpenter, but he did the best he could. Ray has been by Terri’s side taking care of every basic task he can to make sure his wife stays strong and positive. Even if that means neglecting his own health in the process
Well, I am happy to say that some relief is on the horizon for this lovely family.
Thanks to our incredible partnership with Brooke Communications and Rogue Credit Union, we have partnered with Bobby Geyer Construction to make sure Terri has ramps and access in and out of the house with complete safety. We have also partnered with Dr. Alanson Randol to help get Ray’s teeth fixed and all taken care of.
Chelsey and the team All Purpose Professional Cleaning will be performing a deep clean on the couple’s home, as well as helping with any other cleaning and maintenance needed. Ray and Terri will also be receiving a gift card to Sherm’s Thunderbird Market to ensure their pantry is well stocked for the holidays. And thanks to our partnership with both Crystal Creek Meats and Blueprint Meats the family will be receiving 20lbs of beef as well.
Oakland Tavern will be providing the couple with a gift card to Walmart to stock up on any essential supplies or gifts for the holidays. They will also be receiving cords of firewood to help heat the house this winter. This way Ray can hopefully get a nice break from chopping firewood for a while, as it’s their only source of heat.
Hopefully, all of this can help ease some burden and take a load off of the family’s mind. We wish Terri a swift recovery and hope to see her back on the golf course in the future. Merry Christmas everyone!
