Kandi is a very well-known individual within our small community. Being a counselor over at Serenity Lane, she specializes in helping people when they are at the their lowest, and training other individuals to be able to do the same. She is always doing everything in her power to empower others and to help the community she loves.
Unfortunately this has been a rather rough year for poor Kandi, as on January 18th she was diagnosed with an incredibly rare form of Breast Cancer. With the next coming months came a few more surgeries, a lumpectomy and then chemotherapy.
Chances are, we all know someone who has been affected by cancer. It makes everything incredibly difficult. Even the simplest of actions become monumental tasks.
But that was not going to stop Kandi! She has a 13-year-old to take care of, so you can be sure she was still working through the whole year, even if it meant she could not take on quite what she was normally used to.
Even though Kandi’s life was changed dramatically, quitting is not in her vocabulary.
Having just celebrated her final round of radiation treatment in October, Kandi is just glad to have made it through the whole ordeal. Though with the thought of the holidays approaching fast, the new diet she must maintain, and the ever-lovely hospital bills, things can be a little stressful, even for superheroes like her.
Well, the good news is that Brooke Communication’s and Rogue Credit Union’s Wish Upon A Star Program are here to help ease the burden.

We have been told that Kandi rarely buys anything for herself, but loves Maurices. That is why Red Barn is generously donating another gift card for Maurices so that Kandi can treat herself to some lovely new clothes.
We have also partnered up with West Harvard Furniture to get Kandi a new couch so that way she has a new comfortable space to work from.
And to top it all off…
Chemotherapy is rough. The treatments are designed to attack the rapidly growing cancer cells, but unfortunately, they also attack other rapidly growing cell in your body, such as those in the roots of your hair. This loss of hair can be quite damaging to our confidence or self-image.
That is why we have partnered with The Body Bar to get Kandi a full pampering package to help her feel like her beautiful self once again.
