Nyk is a single dad doing his best to raise three amazing children. A 17-year-old daughter, and two five- and six-year-old sons.
Back in August Nyk was forced into a rather precarious position. As it turns out the home that Nyk and his children were living in, were part of an estate between Nyk’s mother and Uncle. Unfortunately, the estate had a rather large amount of back-taxes owed upon it. At the time Nyk’s income was not going to be able to cover the amount owed, so Nyk was forced to find somewhere new to live.
Nyk had some connections down in Douglas County, such as his best friend Jess. This made it easier to establish some friends to stay with till he found a new home. Then he proceeded to land himself a job at Umpqua Dairy. Everything all set, and ready for Nyk and his kids to begin a new life – far away from their home in Washington.
After managing to scrounge what money he had left, Nyk rented a U-Haul and departed for Roseburg.
However, things do not always go as planned. When Nyk arrived he quickly found out that the friends he wanted to stay with, would no longer be available like he had planned. In fact, all the plans Nyk had to make life easy on his children during the transition, all fall through. Leaving Nyk in a very awkward position.
The waiting list to even get a home or an apartment here in Douglas County is growing by the day, which meant Nyk would have to wait a considerable amount of time before he would be able to secure himself a new place to call home.
This left Nyk and his children with only one option, staying in a motel until something was available.
To make matters worse, during the move Dorian, the six-year-old, lost his glasses rending him unable to see, let alone do any sort of school work. Nyk and Dorian are both legally blind, so naturally poor Nyk’s glasses breaking, was certainly not going to help his situation any further.
Nyk does have a place for him and his children to do laundry, and receive a home cook meal, with Jess’ mother Eldonna. Providing the family with a place of serenity, no matter how brief. After Eldonna noticed that Nyk’s glasses were missing a lens and hanging from his shirt, she knew Nyk could use a blessing.
To say Nyk is in between a rock and hard place is an understatement. Having to borrow money from many lending apps in order to stay above water, Nyk’s financial situation is on the brink of ruin. This means outside of a few gifts from the grandparents, Christmas is pretty much out of the question.
Well, I am happy to let you know that Brooke Communications and Rogue Credit Union, Wish Upon a Star Program is here to provide a few blessings of our own!
Thanks to a partnership with the upcoming Sportsman & Outdoor Recreation Show coming to the fairgrounds in February, Nyks hotel costs are going to be covered for awhile so that Nyk can focus on getting everything set and ready for when the family finds their new home.
Thanks to Red Barn Dispensary Nyk will be receiving a gift card to Sherm’s Thunderbird, to stock the cupboards with whatever food essentials or snacks they may desire.
Thanks to Sidney Senior Services Nyk and Dorian both will both receive eye exams from Dr. Thomas Leech, and Sidney Senior Services will be covering the costs for brand new glasses for the pair.
Wish Upon A Star will also be proving the family with a YMCA membership. Hotels are not really made for a long stay, and we imagine that the kids could certainly use a place to burn some energy.
Also Wish Upon a Star will be providing Nyk with a gift card to Walmart, so that way they can have a Christmas to remember!
Nyk, you are a rockstar, and we know that amazing things are just right around the corner for you and your family. We wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
