There are few families like that of Shane’s. Loving, caring, and willing to go the extra mile, or even the extra 400 miles…. routinely.
To start things off, lets explain why their situation is so unique.
Shane’s daughter Isabella is 19 years old and tougher than nails. Having been through 30 surgeries throughout her life, 7-8 of them being major, she is no stranger to fighting intense illness.
As a matter of fact, the family just recently returned from Houston, where Isabella was tested for a kidney transplant. Crossing their fingers that her siblings will be a positive match as donors, as that is the only way it could work with the proper antibodies.
Seeing as poor Isabella’s kidneys have been in rejection for the past two years, she must routinely receive dialysis 3-4 times per week.
While this has been incredibly hard on the family, Isabella is just happy to still be around to spend time with her loved ones.
If Shane’s family’s situation was not tragic enough, the tears keep rolling.
On November 17th, Shane’s son Brandon, was involved in a terrible wreck. After dropping his sister off for her routine dialysis appointment, Brandon was on his way back to the house. It was foggy when he pulled up to the intersection in Melrose, where Brandon’s vehicle was met with an unseen pickup truck.
It is an absolute miracle that Brandon is still with us.
The accident left poor Brandon with a broken shoulder, a broken elbow, a broken hand, seven broken ribs, 69 stiches in his face, many missing teeth, and a TBI, also know as a traumatic brain injury.
It is Shane’s belief that his son his alive through the power of prayer, and that Brandon is an example of what the love of God can do.
The nurses say that Brandon is recovering well and that they are amazed at the progress he is displaying.
While he cannot recall anything from the accident, he is able to remember many complicated topics related to his love for music.
The family has been traveling routinely back and forth to see Brandon, but sadly they don’t get a lot of time with him due to this intense rehabilitation for his TBI. Between running his welding shop, and ensuring that Isabella’s checkups are attended, its safe to say this family is spending a large amount of time on the road.
That is why Brooke Communications and Rogue Credit Unions Wish Upon A Star program is here to bestow some blessings on the Shane’s family.
With a huge thanks to the Residents Inn at the Downtown Portland Pearl District, we are happy to report that from Tuesday through Christmas Shane’s hotel visits will be fully covered. The last thing the family needs to worry about is where to rest their heads while they watch their boy recover.
Roseburg Honda is going to be providing the family with a very generous fuel card to help ease the costs for such large round trips.
During one of their last trips to see Brandon, some unknown hooligans broke into Shane’s vehicle and stole some of Brandon’s clothes. Therefore, Wish Upon A Star will be providing the family with a gift card to Fred Meyers for clothes or whatever they may need.
Thanks to Red Barn Dispensary and Roseburg Fence, the family will also be receiving a large gift card to Sherm’s Thunderbird, so that way they can have some full bellies as the spend time with Brandon this Christmas.
We are praying for a speedy recovery for Brandon as well as good health to Isabella, and the whole family. You all do so much for the community and we cant wait to see you all smiling once again! We wish you all a merry Christmas and happy New Year
