GOOD MORNING AND WELCOME BACK TO BROOKE COMMUNICATIONS AND
ROGUE CREDIT UNION’S WISH UPON A STAR PROGRAM…

IN THE MIDST OF LIFE’S UNEXPECTED TURNS, SOMETIMES, A GLIMMER OF HOPE ARRIVES WHEN IT’S NEEDED MOST. LESLIE’S STORY IS ONE SUCH TESTAMENT TO RESILIENCE IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY. WITH THE SUDDEN LOSS OF THEIR MOTHER TO COPD, NATTY AND VIVIAN, AGES 9 AND 6, FOUND THEMSELVES NAVIGATING A WORLD THAT CHANGED OVERNIGHT…

HERE IS TODAY’S WISH UPON A STAR…

“We’re just kinda struggling to get Christmas and get them situated,” Leslie shared with a touch of both determination and vulnerability. The loss of their sole provider not only brought immense emotional upheaval but also financial challenges that cascaded into their daily lives.

Leslie and her husband had envisioned a retirement tailored for two, but life had other plans. Their peaceful plans expanded to encompass caring for their grandchildren, introducing unexpected expenses that strained their fixed income.

The move from Tyee to Reedsport signified more than a change in location—it meant a complete upheaval of their lives. New home, new school, new expenses; the added financial weight was palpable. “A lot they were not expecting,” Leslie admitted.

Their challenges seemed ceaseless. A septic system now needing monthly servicing, unexpected travel expenses for weekly visits, and tough decisions about essential purchases like car tires weighed heavily on them.

Yet, amidst their struggles, rays of kindness pierced through. The Wish Upon a Star program, orchestrated by Brooke Communications and Rogue Credit Union, became their beacon of hope. Through the generosity of various sponsors, they received an outpouring of support that surpassed all expectations.

Gift cards from Full Throttle Auto and Sunrise Shop & Save provided essentials for groceries and household needs. Chevron’s fuel gift card will ease their necessary weekly travel burdens, while additional support covered electrical bills, septic services, and more, all made possible by collective contributions.

The girls, Natty and Vivian, were embraced by Absolute Sound and Music, receiving a guitar with accessories and a month of lessons. Additionally, a generous group provided an abundance of clothes and gifts.

“Going above and beyond what I even imagined,” Leslie expressed, overwhelmed by the generosity that aimed to restore balance and hope to their lives.

In this shared moment of giving and receiving, the Wish Upon a Star program stands as a beacon of hope, bridging gaps until further assistance arrives. It’s a reminder of the profound impact of community and the enduring strength found in unity and support.
